When Christmas is not going as well as you anticipated (like every year since the beginning of time) and the plan of going for hardcore cookie baking sessions is just not going to happen here is
THE EASIEST QUICKEST COOKIE RECIPE IN THE WORLD!

So this recipe follows the 1 - 2 - 3 Rule
which basically means

or to europeanise the recipe

And that is basically all there is to it.
So without further ado here is the entire recipe:
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
2 cups softened butter
3 cups all-purpose flour
Preheat the oven to 150°C or 300°f.
Knead all the ingredients together with clean dry hands. (You'll want your hands to be dry. Otherwise the dough will stick to your fingers FOREVER)
Let the dough sit for at least 30min in a cool place. Don't let it sit too long though or it will be hard to roll out.
Part your dough into 3 parts and roll out on a floured surface. If you don't have a rolling pin (like me) a cleaned wine bottle will do!
Cut out your cookies and lay them on a tray covered with parchment (or those fancy silicone baking sheets. Just something to make sure they don't stick to your cooking sheet)
Bake for about 10 minutes or until they have browned. The thinner you rolled out your dough, the quicker they will be done.
Let them cool on a rack before decorating.
And there you have it. That's all there is too it. Even I (being a very untalented chef) have never managed to ruin the dough. The only thing that could go wrong is BURNING THEM (which I have done multiple times)
Additional tip:
If you have put them too close together on the rack, just cut them apart with a knife while they're still hot
I have also created a little Youtube video on how to make them which you can check out below!
Now go forth and save Christmas!
